PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is specifically engineered as a Cold Beverage Solution. Understanding the thermal properties of PET is essential to using it safely and effectively. While it is the champion of the cold drink world, it has specific temperature limits that must be respected to maintain the integrity of the cup.
Freezing: PET is excellent for frozen treats. It does not become brittle at freezing temperatures, making it ideal for ice cream, frozen yogurt, and slushies.
Room Temperature: Perfect for sodas, water, and juices.
PET has a relatively low glass transition temperature. If you pour hot coffee or tea (typically served at 80°C-90°C) directly into a PET cup, it will warp, shrink, and deform almost instantly. This is not a defect; it is a characteristic of the material. For hot beverages, we recommend paper cups or PP cups.
Store in Cool Places: Avoid storing cartons of PET cups in direct sunlight or hot shipping containers for extended periods to prevent warping.
Cool Before Pouring: If brewing fresh tea for iced tea, ensure the liquid is cooled or poured over plenty of ice before it hits the cup.
